Who makes non-alcoholic aperitivo in Italy?
That is Italy's share of US imports under customs code 2202.99, non-alcoholic beverages: a market worth $1.86 billion in 2024 (UN Comtrade, Bellasource analysis, August 2026). The ritual is Italian. The supply is not.
What is Italian non-alcoholic aperitivo?
A bitter or bittersweet drink served before dinner, built on botanicals, citrus and herbs. It is not a sweet mocktail. In Italy it has a long history: Crodino, the best-known, has been poured since the 1960s. Around it, smaller producers make bitters, chinotto and botanical sodas, often in small batches and tied to a specific region.
Why are buyers looking at it now?
The non-alcoholic category in the US is projected to reach $5 billion by 2028, growing 18% a year (IWSR, cited by Campari America). Many of the best-known non-alcoholic aperitivo brands on US shelves are American companies with Italian-sounding names. The original Italian reference, Crodino, reached the US only in May 2025, in seven markets: six states plus Washington, D.C.
So the space is open for authentic Italian producers. Buyers who move early can offer something competitors cannot copy: the origin.
How do I know an Italian maker is reliable?
We don't list everyone. We select makers one by one, on four criteria:
| What we check | Why it matters to a buyer |
|---|---|
| Export readiness | English-speaking contact, export documentation, experience with foreign shipments |
| Certifications | Food safety standards your market requires |
| Production capacity | Can they follow your volumes as you grow? |
| Real origin | Italian recipe, Italian production, Italian supply chain |
Maker profiles are shared by request. Names come with the shortlist.
